On my exotic tiny little island of Houk, Chuuk (Federated States of Micronesia) in central Pacific Ocean, I grew up eating taro, breadfruit and seafoods.

Fruits -- like banana, coconut, gian lau lau, mangoes, noni, papaya, pandanus, pineapple, soursop, wild apples and more --are also abundant on my island, some even growing wildly for public use.

Veggies you normally buy from stores in the US are almost non-existent.

Pigs and chickens are limited, so we reserve them primarily for special occassions use only... like birthdays, Christmas, New Year's, and Easter celebrations.

But taro, breadfruit and fish -- again -- are the main stable diet for Houkese to this day.

The same is true for all of the low lying islands strewn all over the biggest body of water on earth.

I had no idea, however, that God gave us strict diet in the Bible. Even more surprising, I could not imagine the Good Lord wanting us to keep such diet today.

Many call it vegan diet.

But, contrary to what many people believe though, it is true. God still wants us to eat a plant-based diet!

The primary reason is for good health and longevity, including endurance and strength. Science, God's science, bears that out.

Today, more and more people are consciously turning to a plant-based diet for many reasons including God's primary reason.

It is safe to say that it's becoming common knowledge among athletes -- especially serious runners and bodybuilders -- that if you want to elevate your performance to the next level, it is wise to become either a vegan or a vegetarian.

A vegan, simply, is a more serious vegetarian. One who completely abstains from eating meat and meat products. A vegetarian, on the other hand, may sometimes eat dairy products, according to healthline.com/nutrition/vegan-vs-vegetarian.

Researchers have long known the benefits of a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. People tend to perform at their optimum level when limiting themselves to the plant-base diet.

Now, if you (are an atheist and you) do not believe you were created by the Creator God, you might want to pay close attention. I promise things will become clearer.

Or just humor me a little... please?

In God's Holy Bible, the Good Lord tells us in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, what the foods are for all his creatures- man and animals alike.

God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food. And it was so (Gen 1:29,30)."

So, way back in the beginning of the world, in the garden of Eden, the original food God gave the first couple was fruits and nuts. For the animals, He gave them green plants.

The Creator knows his creation. He knows what's best for them, and what's not, would you agree?

And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden" (Gen 2:16).

Now, just for a minute, let's look elsewhere to illustrate: If you bought yourself a brand new car, you'd notice there is usually an Owner's Manual that comes with the car.

In it, the creator(s) of the car would tell you what to do with the car:

  • When to get its first oil-change

  • The kind of fuel you must use

  • The kind and size of tires to use ... and much more ... to keep your car in tip top shape for, hopefully, a long time. Right?

When we see in the manual that we must use gasoline or diesel for the new vehicle, we don't argue. Do we?

That's right, we just do it! No questions asked.

We trust the manual because the folks who built the vehicle know what they are talking about. That's the fuel they intended for the car to perform at its maximum best, so that's the fuel we must use.

The same is true with "man" and the Owner's Manual that came with him or her- the Bible!

It's no wonder, athletes perform at the top of their games after following the Creator God's own diet for us human beings ... by switching to veganism or vegetarianism.

But that's not all, researchers and doctors have also proven that many of the debilitating diseases, such as diabetes and heart diseases, can be reversed... and are reversed by the vegan lifestyle.

Top that off, the internal organs are not meant for meat eating, experts say. In fact, all of the human organs (I would think the same is true with animals too) are fashioned to ingest and digest plant-based products. Not meat!

Let's explore more of that in another blog, another time...

In the next article, however, we want to talk a little about the vegan lifestyle from a biblical stand point.

I'd like to show you how the vegan lifestyle may be responsible for extending a person's life beyond the 100-year threshold.

So, stay tuned... don't miss it!
